Physical Therapy (PT) focuses on helping individuals of all ages gain functional motor skills involved in mobility, independence and self-care in all areas of their lives.

Functional skills physical therapists assess and address include:

  • Large motor skills
  • Balance
  • Posture
  • Trunk control
  • Extremity strength
  • Gait and walking skills
  • Coordination
  • Motor sequencing and functional use of muscles
  • Strength and endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Neurological processing for patterns and movement
  • Functional movement and transfers

Physical therapy services include an individualized evaluation to determine the client’s skills, areas of difficulty, prognosis for improvement and goals. If PT services are recommended, the client is seen for individual treatment sessions to address areas of difficulty and to achieve maximum skills.

PT treatment techniques utilized at Timber Creek include aquatic therapy in a warm water pool with a moving current, hippotherapy on horseback, FES (functional electrical stimulation) on a machine designed for paralysis from spinal cord injuries, head trauma and strokes, and individualized treatment in the therapy gym.
